One of the most remarkable features of sockeye is a phenomenon called cyclic dominance. In many of the lakes of the Fraser River in particular, sockeye are abundant in one of every four years.
Coho migrating as smolts to the oceans will spend up to 18 months in the sea before returning to their natal streams to spawn.
