Interesting Facts
One of the most remarkable features of sockeye is a phenomenon called cyclic dominance. In many of the lakes of the Fraser River in particular, sockeye are abundant in one of every four years.
Spawning male coho in freshwater exhibit bright red on their sides and bright green on the back and head, with darker colouration on the belly. They also develop a marked hooked jaw with sharp teeth.
